Per our longstanding release plan for BIND 9, after four and a half years, BIND 9.
Read postOndřej Surý gave a talk at the RIPE 92 conference in Edinburgh in May, on “How many DNS queries does it take to resolve one name?”
The talk highlights the surprising number of queries it can take BIND 9, with a cold cache, in order to respond to a single client request. The number also varies, depending on the version of BIND, although the most recent versions of BIND take fewer queries. CNAME chains and PTR records are particularly hard to resolve, and can require many recursive queries to resolve.
